The INDIA Bloc has put forward B. Sudarshan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge, as its candidate for the Vice Presidency, aiming to contest against the NDA's nominee, C. P. Radhakrishnan. Justice Reddy's judicial career began when he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995. He later served as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court starting December 5, 2005, and reached the Supreme Court of India on January 12, 2007, retiring on July 8, 2011.
Background of Sudarshan Reddy
Born on July 8, 1946, Reddy holds both a B.A. and an LL.B. He began his legal career in Hyderabad, registering with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on December 27, 1971, focusing on writ and civil cases. His roles included serving as Government Pleader from 1988 to 1990 and briefly as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government in 1990. He also provided legal counsel for Osmania University. After his tenure in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, he became the first Lokayukta of Goa in March 2013 but resigned after seven months for personal reasons.
NDA's Vice Presidential Candidate
The NDA has chosen C. P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the Vice Presidency. Currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, he has previously held governorships in Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry. Radhakrishnan has been elected to the Lok Sabha twice and has led the Tamil Nadu BJP as its state president. With over forty years of political experience, he has strong ties to the RSS, which has equipped him with significant organizational and ideological insights.
